Unleashing Potential

For the majority of the class of 2000 this is the year we hit that decadent marker - the thirties. To most that means a rite of passage into......adulthood? professionalism? being old? At any rate, it sets us reflecting on what in the world we have done with the first third of our life.

Recently, and partially set in course by Jill's brilliant post from the past, I have been musing about what exactly the last 12 years has done to our particular group of 'adults' cast in this world. What has become of us? I haven't yet seen Elaine as the President, but I am certain she has reached some potential of a person that I had never guessed possible. What has become of the big dreams and the iron clad plans? How many have we followed through with? How many have we 'grown out of'?

What's really cool about all these musings is actually having a peek and what potential has actually been reached. You'll see me lurking, and I generally try to leave comments so you know I am not trying to destroy you covertly, through the links on this web page. In all truth - I am shocked and amazed at who you all have become!! Downright shocked!! And delightfully so.

Among our ranks there are multiple advanced educational degrees. There have been some radical changes in some and some fantastic evolutions in others. Tons of the hidden gems of our class have now come to the sparkling for-front with those talents that may have made you odd in the old days. Heaven knows I have just began to search into the accomplishments of a class of 343.

In short - CONGRATULATIONS! and WELL DONE! turning 30 hasn't looked so bad on most of us. Can't wait to see what another decade will do to us all!

2015 From Mrs. McRae's Classroom

I put this up on my personal blog (http://jillerbreport.blogspot.com) But i thought it may interest those of you who went to MMS. I recently found a portfolio I put together for Mrs. McRae's Language Arts class (7th grade). I had to write about my life then and my predictions for life 20 year later. It hasn't quite been 20 years, but it is safe to say that most of my predictions have failed to materialize.

Disclaimer: I did not edit my 7th grade spelling and grammar, so don't judge me. Also, I'm aware that April 31, 2015 will probably never come,  but apparently there was an aberration in the calendar in 1995. ;-)

I'm pretty sure I still got an A.

Enjoy. If anyone else comes across their future predictions let me know and we'll post it here!

!NOW!
Hello! Today is April 31, 1995. If you've read some of this book than you're probably have some questions about me. Well I'll try my best to answer the questions you might have in case I'm not there when you ask them.
Well my name is Jill Walker in case you haven't noticed. I'm 13 years old. I was born REDACTED. Right now I want to be a lawyer, but I love where I live now.
A typical day goes something like the following. In the morning I get up about 7:00 My family has prayer and we read scriptures. Then I either have a shower or go get ready. After that i spend most of the rest of my time getting ready for school. My bus comes about 8:30 and I go to school. I'm in the seventh grade, but I still go to the middle school. I go to math with McRae - Science with Rass (Mr. Rassmussen) - Social Studies with Mitchell - Lunch - then I go to L.A. with McRae - P.E. or Exploratory - Chorus with Turnblom - and L.A. again.
I am on the track team, I was on the Volleyball Team, I tried out for the Basketball team but I got cut. I like to run but I'm not that fast. In the back of my book are some poems about sports that I think are great. Also there are some pictures up to this time in my life. My favorite poem is "The Big Game".
Right now I'm in the Mormon Church. I'm a Beehive, I'm the second counselor in the presidency. The prophet is Gordan B. Hinckley. I wish that all my posterity will be members of the Church Latter-Day Saints.

!LATER!

I married a middle class football coach named Matthew Trulls. He has since been offered positions at Notre Dame, BYU, and the new college called Graham Being College for the exceptionally special. He accepted the GBC offer it is a college for anyone that doesn't get accepted to other colleges. It brings out the best in people we enjoy living in Orderville, Utah. Even if it is the second biggest city in the world it's a nice place to live everyone is really nice.
Last year we elected a new president Elaine Lovell. She's the youngest and the first girl president in our country. A few years ago we didn't have a president everyone was slow than someone came along and turned our country around. Her name is Rebekah Bodily she put crime rate down 99% but unfortunately that 1% killed her she was murdered on Jan. 1 while celebrating a new year. But the change was already and we were a whole new country it was great.

What do you remember most?

So here is a random question for you. What do you remember most about High School? A class? A dance? An event? Let's hear it.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

So I just realized that there were a whopping two posts on this blog in 2011. Wow, pitiful.

There are a few of you out there with author rights on the blog, I'm sure that people who check the blog would love to hear from somebody, anybody more than twice a year. I'll try to do my part to help things along. If you don't have author rights but would like to have them, leave a comment.

Ummmmm, otherwise, it's been a very un-rexburg like winter so far. Barely any snow on the ground. If you live some where warm, come home and visit so the crappy snowy weather will show up to ruin your vacation.

Jessica was born Nov. 9, 1981, in Rexburg, the daughter of Darla (Muir) and Everett Parks Wilson, Jr.

She attended Madison district schools and was a member of the 2000 Madison High School graduating class. She served an LDS Mission to the Baltics, after which she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, receiving her B.S. degree in social work August 2009. Jessica became a licensed social service worker for the state of Utah in November 2009. She was employed by the Wasatch Mental Health in December 2009 and worked there until her death.

Jessica enjoyed helping people, an excerpt from her journal dated September 30, 2007, reads: "I'm gonna be a social worker! Woo-hoo! Do you know why? Because I am a teacher & I love to help people - it brings me joy."

Jessica was an inspiration to everyone who came in contact with her. She never prejudged anyone always being accepted on their own merits. She was a talented artist, an avid reader, loved to play sports with friends and was a runner. Jessica completed several marathons, Ragnar relay races and was a member of the ATK Run Club. She also loved to cook and would make new desserts for friends every weekend.

She is survived by her parents of Rexburg, Idaho; two grandmothers, Eloise Muir of Rexburg and Leanora K. Wilson, of Clearfield, Utah; four sisters, Genevieve R. Wilson of Draper, Utah, Crystal V. woman hit by car, killed on byu campus

PROVO --  A woman was hit by a car and was killed Sunday night on Brigham Young University campus.

Police say Jessica Wilson, 28, and a friend were crossing North Campus Drive between 500 and 600 East near the bell tower around 8 p.m. Sunday when they were struck by a car driving west.

"A 27-year-old male got distracted and didn't see them and hit them both," said BYU police Lt. Arnold Lemmon.

Lemmon said the man was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima in the inside westbound lane. Two witnesses at the scene said the man had a green light, Lemmon said, but police are still investigating the incident. He said alcohol and drugs are not factors in the accident. The sun had gone down at the time of the accident, but Lemmon said there was still some ambient light.

Lemmon said Wilson suffered head trauma and was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center within minutes, where she was later pronounced dead. The second woman, whose name has not been released, was also transported to the hospital with a possible compound fracture to her leg.

"She is in critical condition awaiting multiple surgeries," he said.

The woman is a friend of Wilson who was visiting from out of the country, Lemmon said. Although she is still in critical condition, she is expected to survive.

Wilson's family said the friend is from Estonia, where Wilson served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been in the country for a few weeks and was to return home in October.

Everett Wilson, Jessica Wilson's father, said Wilson worked as a social worker at Wasatch Mental Health after graduating from BYU in August 2009.

"She really loved her job," he said.

Everett Wilson said his daughter enjoyed helping people at Wasatch and wanted to get a master's degree someday, but she wanted to get the degree online so that she would not have to leave her job.

The family said Wilson loved to help others, and they provided an excerpt from her journal from when she entered the social work program.

"I'm gonna be a social worker! Woohoo!" she wrote. "Do you know why? Because I am a teacher, and I love to help people -- it brings me joy."

Darla Wilson, Jessica Wilson's mother, said her daughter's love for others was genuine. Jessica Wilson loved life, and she tried to help everybody love life, her mother said.

Jessica Wilson took karate, debate and was a member of Future Farmers of America when she was young -- mostly to meet others, her mother said. She did not try to be the center of attention, but she loved people and naturally drew them to her.

"She was never in one spot very long before everybody knew her," Darla Wilson said.

Jessica Wilson was also an avid marathoner and completed several. She was signed up to run a relay in Las Vegas next month. Though Wilson grew up in Rexburg, Idaho, she fell in love with Utah Valley and its mountains and wanted to stay in the area.

Wilson's family said she inspired others, and Everett Wilson said several friends were at the hospital Sunday evening when they heard the news. Her mother said several people said Wilson was "the most perfect and spiritual person they've ever met."

Though the accident has been hard on the family, Everett Wilson said his daughter would not want them to mourn. He said if she were still here, she would be much more concerned about her family than herself.

Amber Kent, Jessica Wilson's sister, said the family is planning to hold a funeral for Jessica on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Rexburg, Idaho. Some of Jessica Wilson's friends are considering a 5K fund raiser to help pay for the funeral, and Kent said there may be a memorial service in Utah County when the 5K is held.

Jessica served as a missionary in the Baltic Mission, which includes Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia.

call for photos

Two questions:

1) Is anyone willing to share / post the pictures they took at the class reunion?

2) Is anyone willing to share / post pictures they have from our high school days?

I thought it would be fun to have a few posts of reunion pictures and a few posts of old high school pictures, but I need your help to do it.

Please leave a comment if you have pictures to share.

Thanks!

hundreds help move madison high school

Submitted by KIDK Web Staff on Tuesday, July 20th, 5:13 pm
http://rexburg.kidk.com

REXBURG - Hundreds of students and volunteers are in the process of moving materials from the old high school into the new one. The new Madison High School is expected to be open in August and be ready for the upcoming school year.

Students will have a bit of ownership in the new high school, and that's exactly what administrators want.
It's no secret that there's rapid growth in Madison County and the new high school will help with over crowding.

"A lot of money that they put into this building, and it all came from this community, and it all means a lot. My last classroom was a makeshift classroom up in the old weightroom," said Dave Reeser, a history teacher at the high school.

The new school is state of the art in every respect, right down to electronically locking doors controllable from the office.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for our youth and for the community. This will serve as an educational hub for decades to come," said superintendent Geoffrey Thomas.

It's a group effort as hundreds of kids are are here to help move stuff in.

"This is our school, this is our turf, we've got to work for it, I think it gives us a sense of value," said Cortland Rammell with the Student Body.

"Cause we're all apart of the school and we need to help out and contribute," said Lindsey Hadry, who is going into 11th grade.

"If we're all serving together to help with the new high school because we're all so excited about it. It will bring us together and make us all unified," said Emily Stephenson who is going into the 11th grade.

And it isn't just excitement for the incoming high school students. The old high school will be the new junior high, so it's an upgrade for many in Madison County.

The new Madison High School can support upto 1400 students, and is double the size of the old high school. The cost of the new high school? $45-million.

As for the old junior high no decision yet what to do with what will be an empty building. We'll keep you posted.
